The “Inspector’s Report on the Torrington Place to Tavistock Place Public Inquiry” was released on May 18 and is available here.
This is an officer’s report on the (extended) experimental traffic order making this roadway one-way, thereby giving larger space to two-directional cycling and bigger pavements for pedestrians.
The report contains useful rebuttals to the many objections to this redesign of the roadway. Remember — objections are natural and understandable. But their weight must be taken in proportion to the number of people they represent. In this case, the local residents overwhelmingly favoured making the one-way scheme permanent.
See this by Andrew Gilligan on the importance of separating the substance from the noise when it comes to ‘controversial’ traffic redesigns.
